Who we are
The New York City Otaku Choir is an exciting new ensemble dedicated to celebrating the powerful and emotional music from anime and video games. Founded by Johnathan Gibbs, a long-time chorister and choral conductor with over 12 years of experience in New York City's music scene, the choir was created to unite singers and fans who share a love for this unique and inspiring music.
We aim to perform iconic soundtracks from both anime and video game worlds, offering audiences the chance to experience these beloved melodies in a choral setting. From the stirring themes of Final Fantasy to the soaring anthems of One Piece, our vision is to create a community of performers passionate about bringing these scores to life.
Our Role in NYC's Video Game Music Scene
In addition to our own concerts and performances, the NYC Otaku Choir seeks to play a vital role in the broader video game music (VGM) community. With so many incredible instrumental performances happening across the city and surrounding areas, we recognize a unique opportunity to collaborate and contribute as the city's go-to source for choral and vocal elements.
Whether it’s providing background vocals for orchestras, collaborating on arrangements that include choir, or enhancing small ensemble performances with harmonies, the Otaku Choir strives to fill a gap in the VGM scene by bringing the human voice to center stage. Our goal is to complement and elevate the performances of other groups while also establishing ourselves as a stand-alone ensemble.
